About Key 13 Horsemanship
My name is Romy, or Marine, and I am from France. As far as I remember, I have always been around horses and riding horses.
I immigrated to Canada in 2013 and went back to the horse world in 2017 when I met my mare, Angie.
I worked in various environments and positions from the outfitting and guiding company to the breeding/performance barn.
To perfect my knowledge, I took the Animal Science Technology program with a major in Equine at Lakeland College and graduated in 2022.
This is where I found my calling in the behavioral modification and the fundation aspect of the training. I am always interested in the “why” and how I can help a horse to reach is full potential.
So, I took a course with the University Of Guelph in advanced equine behavior and training about positive reinforcement.
My interests include everything related to cattle work such as team penning, sorting, or roping as well as liberty, riding bridleless, and cowboy challenges which make my horses versatile mounts.
AFFPA Luminary of the Year Finalist 2026
Being named a finalist for the Luminary of the Year Award was a true honour and a meaningful recognition of the work behind Key 13 Horsemanship. It was both inspiring and a reminder of how many dedicated people are working every day to strengthen Alberta’s agriculture and agritourism community.
Key 13 Horsemanship was built on education, mentorship, and the belief that when people truly understand horses, everything improves — welfare, partnership, and safety for both horse and human.
Through coaching, public speaking, open farm days, and daily hands-on work with horses and students, I will continue sharing knowledge and advocating for a stronger voice for the equine sector within agriculture.
Because horses are part of this story too.
At Key 13 Horsemanship, our science-based, positive approach creates horses that want to work with you.
We don’t use fear or force. We use trust, clarity, consistency, timing, and real results.
Our program focuses on building strong foundations and true partnerships between horse and human.
Because we work seasonally and with a limited number of horses, we are able to stay consistent, present, and fair — for both horses and owners.
Key 13 Horsemanship may be a good fit if you value:
-Honest communication
-Realistic timelines
-Horse-first decision making
-A thoughtful, steady approach
We use an inquiry form to help determine whether our program is the right fit for you and your horse, and to clearly understand your goals, expectations, and needs in both training and a trainer.
